Orca Synchro is more fun
Orca Synchronized Swimming Club is becoming more fun. Starting in January at Scona Pool, the Orcas will be EdmontonŐs only purely recreational synchro club and the only club to offer AquaSquirts, a new and exciting play based program for boys and girls. The OrcasŐ goal is to see young swimmers learn, grow, and have fun in aquatic activities.
By offering solely recreational synchronized swimming, the Orcas fill a gap in Edmonton. Swimmers will participate in a water show and progress through synchronized swimming star levels, so they can later transfer to a competitive club if they want. Unlike with other clubs, there are no competitions and no costly travel to swim meets. The Orca program offers swimmers the opportunity to become wonderful athletes, learn team skills, make new friends, and have a lot of fun. The AquaSquirts program is an exciting new play-based aquatic program designed to develop the fundamentals of swimming in a creative forum. Boys and girls ages 11 and under will improve breathing techniques, floats, propulsion, and confidence in the water as they role-play and invent games in the water. With theme-based lesson plans such as Let's Go Upside Down, Let's Visit Sea Creatures and LetŐs Give a Show, participants improve their swimming skills in a fun-filled, relaxed, and creative environment. Incorporating elements from a variety of aquatic sports including diving, water polo, swimming, and synchro, AquaSquirts is suitable for a child who is advancing very quickly through the swimming levels or who needs more time or a different learning approach, or for any child who enjoys aquatic activity. The Orcas also offer a unique opportunity for parents and siblings: while your child is having a fun workout, so can you! One lane of Scona pool plus a small recreational swimming space, a hot tub, and a sauna are available for you to enjoy during your childŐs swim time. Plus the Orcas don't ask members to do any fundraising, except for a casino every other year. No selling chocolates, no selling sausages, and no bingos! The OrcasŐ certified instructors/coaches include new head coach Karen Wilson Davis. Karen was a technical advisor/coordinator with the Edmonton Auroras competitive synchronized swimming club and currently also coaches the Edmonton Aquadettes Masters.
