Orca Synchronized Swimming Club
Swimmers' code of conduct
Swimmers and coaches will together develop a list of the behaviors appropriate for their team and then sign off on them.
Coaches will maintain a log of discipline related events.
When a problem is noted by a coach or reported to a coach, the discipline policy will be implemented as follows:
1. One warning will be given to the swimmer with a description of the behaviour or attitude requiring adjustment with suggested changes.
2. If the first discussion is ineffective, a second warning will be given, and if the coach wishes, the swimmer will be asked to sit on the pool deck for a time out. The swimmer will be given direction that a third notification will lead to communication by the coach with a parent/guardian.
3. At the time of the third notification, the coach will communicate with a parent/guardian of the swimmer at the end of the swim session or by phone, and a behaviour plan will be drafted and signed by the swimmer and a parent/guardian before the swimmer can return to a swim session.
4. If the behaviour persists, the swimmer will be asked to leave the session and to notify their parents/guardians that they have been removed from practice must be picked up early. The swimmer cannot return without a meeting of the parents, swimmer, coach, and head coach during which the problem must be addressed through the drafting of a behavioural plan. The coach, head coach, parents, or swimmer may propose disciplinary measures to be included in the plan upon consensus.
5. In the event that the behaviour persists, the swimmer will be indefinitely suspended and the issue will be taken up at the next executive meeting.
6. The executive will review the situation, and after representation from the swimmer, parents, the coach and/or head coach the committee will decide what action should be taken or what consequences should be applied.
