Important - registration for family swim for the 2009/2010

Registration for family swimming will be completed at the beginning of each season. Synchro Alberta has advised that family swim time can be reinstated by having family members sign either a Participant Agreement (children) or a Waiver (adult).  A once yearly fee of $7.00 will be charged to each participant.  All family swimmers are to see the lifeguard who will confirm that you are registered.  Lifeguard will mark the arm of the participant.  We ask all those who enjoy Orca's Family Swim to cooperate.

Pool availability for family and lane swimming 2009/2010 Seaspm

Availability of lane and family swim areas are subject to the needs of the synchro coaches. The sauna is always available if it is operational. There will be no family or lane swimming available during Star testing.

In general, there will be a dedicated family swim area before and after SynchroKids enter the pool. One lane, the second lane from the long edge of the pool, will always be available but will be shared with family swim during SynchroKids' practice.

Orcas' family and lane swim guidelines

Orca Synchro's primary goal is to provide high-quality, enjoyable recreational synchronized swimming and aquatics lessons for children. Since we do not use the entire pool, we make a lane available for lane swimming and a space available for recreational "family" swimming. To ensure that our primary goal is not compromised by other pool users, please follow these guidelines:
  • See lifeguards, prior to entering the pool, to receive a mark on your shoulder to indicate that you are a registered swimmer.
  • Unaccompanied children must be at least 8 years old. This applies to both family members of registered swimmers and to the registered swimmers themselves if they stay to play after practice. Once their practice is over, they are not supervised by a coach/instructor. Pool rules require that unsupervised children be at least 8 years old.
  • Please be quiet. Swim sessions are occurring right next to you and the Orca AquaSquirts, SynchroKids and SynchroStars athletes need to hear their coaches and not be distracted by others playing in the pool.
  • Please respect the intent of the family and parent swim. The intent of the family and parent swim is to allow those siblings and parents to have the option of getting some exercise and having fun in the pool while waiting for the registered participant to finish their lesson.
  • Family swim is only for family members living in the same household as the registered participant.
    • Please do not bring friends or extended family members.
    • Please be mindful that the space in the pool is limited.
    • Please note that family swim and parent swim is available to you only on the day that your child is registered for a swim lesson. Example: if you are registered for a Sunday SynchroKids session then only Sunday is open to you for family and parent lane swim.
  • Please respect and be flexible with the family and parent swim areas. There are designated swim areas for family swim and parent lane swim, and these areas can change during the course of the swim session based on the coaches and participants' needs.
  • Please be in the pool with your children. If your children are too young or not able to swim the length of the pool on their own then you need to be in the pool with them. Please remember the Canada Red Cross motto: if your child is not within arms length then you are too far away from them.
  • Please have babies and toddlers wear swim diapers at all times. Whether you are in the pool or on the pool deck, a non-toilet trained child must have a swim diaper on. If there is an "accident" the pool gets closed and everyone goes home until the water is cleaned. We don't want to miss out on swim time due to an avoidable accident.
  • Please respect these expectations. Parents have paid to have AquaSquirts, SynchroKids or SynchroStars swim sessions. These swim sessions are the number one priority of the Orca Synchronized Swimming Club. Those individuals who are not mindful of these expectations will lose the privilege of swimming in the pool for one or more sessions.
